My path to becoming a Functional Nutrition Counselor wasn't a straight line—it was a powerful transformation born from personal experience. After earning my BA at UC Santa Cruz and starting post-graduate work in Psychology at Pepperdine, I found myself swept into the fast-paced world of telecommunications. For 13 years, I thrived as a sales professional, but the corporate grind of working, traveling, and entertaining left me feeling like a shadow of my former self.
I was constantly fatigued, overwhelmed by stress, plagued by brain fog, dealing with hormonal imbalances, and even my joints creaked with every move. Despite feeling truly unwell, my allopathic doctor dismissed my concerns, even suggesting that diet wouldn't impact my hormones. That moment was a turning point.
I knew there had to be a different answer. I had even considered medical or nursing school, but realized that working within their standard of care model would be a hindrance to truly helping people achieve optimal health. Instead, I dove deep into self-education, immersing myself in nutrition, herbal medicine, yoga, massage therapy, Ayurveda, and other holistic modalities. This is where I learned the profound importance of addressing the root cause of symptoms, rather than simply masking them. As I began applying these principles to my own health, I witnessed incredible shifts and knew, without a doubt, that my purpose was in the wellness field.
After rigorous training and certification from the Functional Nutrition Alliance, I began coaching clients on nutrition and lifestyle. Through my studies and my own healing journey, one fundamental truth emerged: balancing blood sugar is a non-negotiable foundation for optimal health, especially in chronic conditions. This realization led me to focus my practice specifically on helping individuals manage high blood sugar, navigate prediabetes, and even naturally reverse Type II Diabetes.
I created The Sugar Freed Method to empower you. My mission is to help those who feel trapped by their health issues reclaim their vitality. Many of my clients seek me out specifically because they want to reduce or eliminate their reliance on non-life-sustaining pharmaceuticals, and I'm dedicated to supporting them on that journey. This is why I've developed an online course, paired with personal coaching, to reach as many people as possible. My approach is fueled by years of dedicated practice in mind-body integration, including yoga and meditation, alongside evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle education. While Western medicine has its place, I believe deeply in our power to educate ourselves, understand what's happening within our bodies, and take proactive steps to heal and thrive, regardless of a diagnosis. You can look and feel better when you commit to overhauling your lifestyle.
